Phenomenal pacing, great characterization. Several improvements were made in the screen translation which helps tighten the mystery, but everything keeps snapping along so well it's almost hilarious. Great flick.

Neo Noir at its apex.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS. This script is excellent, with an interesting portrayal of the sleazy developing LA where everyone is tainted and has 'an angle' (even the Police) and believable 'triangulating on the truth' by 3 sets of mutually antagonistic cops who eventually band together to overcome the worst of the sleaze. Gripping? I should say! A perfect example of the best of its kind. A few minor glitches (eg Carlisle gets killed but later on is still alive and beating people up) but so what. This all gets ironed out in the editing room.
